Texting While Driving: One Of Driving Distractions...

Research regarding mobile device use shows that though texting while driving remains a concern on the nation's highways.

Cell phone use while driving

The cause of fatal accident on the road.

As technology grows so do the dangers associated with them, especially while driving. People are taking more mobile devices with them every day to work or school or simply for social purposes.
The temptation to use such devices is strong and only increases with the desire to stay in constant contact with friends, family, and other loved ones.

Research shows that the using mobile web services on devices has drastically increased over the last couple of years. For drivers in the 18-29 age category, accessing the internet while on a cell phone while driving increased over 10% in the last few years. Social media networks have played a significant role in this increase. Drivers who are reading and updating social media while on the road increased from 5% as well. While the focus has generally always been on the younger generations, this indicates that drivers of all ages are increasing their use of mobile web devices.

On a positive note the use of texting while driving has decreased in some instances: down 7% for drivers 18-29 in the last couple of years. This could translate into new information that show fatal accidents have decreased in some states. As more public service announcements are made about these dangers and television talk shows and news programs are highlighting these issues, drivers are taking notice to the fatalities and life long consequences of accidents caused by such device usage while driving.

As more attentive teens become more aware of the dangers of texting and mobile web use while driving, it would appear that the older age bracket might think they could handle it better, however that is simply not the case. It only takes a second or less while looking down at the mobile device for an accident to occur and lives to be lost. The safest thing to do is use the phone only for emergency or urgent calls preferably while pulled over to the side of the road. Always use a hands free device or Bluetooth in the auto. Better yet pull over to the side of the road to make or receive that telephone call. "Better safe than sorry" is the phrase that comes to mind regarding these devices and their usage.
